How to Add or Remove Windows Firewall Exception in Windows 7

Problem

Windows 7 Firewall settings is usually done when you running a program which requires a network connection, but you can edit these settings anytime, you can add a program to the list of allowed programs so that it can communicate through the Firewall, or you can remove a item which you don't want it send information to the network from the exception list.

Solution

  1. Click on Start menu, open Control panel

  2. Switch to Large icons view, drag the scroll bar till the end, press Windows Firewall.

  3. Click on Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall.

  4. You can now allow or prevent a program or a feature to communicate through Windows Firewall, check or uncheck the items you want to control.

  5. To add an exception, click on Allow another program..
    If the program is not in the list, add it from Browse...

  6. Locate the target program, select it then press Open. The program will be add in the list. then press Add.

  7. Check the box in front of the program name to allow this exception.
    To remove the exception, highlight the item, then press the Remove button.

  8. After press Yes, the exception will be removed.
